To be successful with affiliate marketing, you must select and promote the right products on your blog. About 76% of new affiliates cannot make money from affiliate marketing for the simple reason that they do not select the right affiliate product to promote.

Choose the best Affiliate Product

Here at Scrupulousblog, I’ve always focused attention on educating my blog readers about affiliate marketing.

Becoming successful with affiliate marketing is not an easy task, however it’s not as complicated as you may think. You must be consistent, persistent, and have a well thought-out marketing plan to achieve success in affiliate marketing.

For instance, the affiliate products you choose to promote and the means you use to promote the products will make a huge difference in terms of what you result you will get at the end of the day. I always choose a product I use in my daily blogs and write tutorials and guides for using the product. This helps in promoting the product that I’m launching and gives the prospective buyer all the information he needs to know about the product or service.

Earlier, we discussed how to start with affiliate marketing and AdSense versus affiliate marketing program. In this guide, I’ll share some steps I follow to select the right product to promote.

Begin with an affiliate merchant:

The best place to start looking for affiliate products is with affiliate merchants like ShareASale, ClickBank, and Commission Junction. You can find the best affiliate products to promote depending on your niche. Commission Junction and ClickBank are highly recommended for niche marketers.

If you are using a WordPress blog, you can use a plugin known as ThirstyAffiliates, to cloak your links.

Participate in Affiliate Programs Individually:

Many of the online products have their own internal affiliate programs. All you have to do is find the best selling products in your niche and use the opportunity to market those products. For instance, if you blog about dogs, you can look for an affiliate program related to “dog care” or “dog food”. Look for the companies that sell these products online and you will find links to affiliate programs on their site. Alternatively, you can simply search on Google “(product name) + affiliate program” or “site: domain.com affiliate”. These are manual searches, but this works in many cases, particularly when you are in a niche where it is hard to find an affiliate product.

What is a Niche Affiliate Product?

This refers to any product related to the topics of your blog and therefore would be of interest to your readers. If, for instance, you write a blog about topics relating to the sports niche, you would like to promote a product related to the niche of your blog, which is the sports niche.

I will advice that you select the best selling products in your niche and begin to write about them. This will help you increase your conversion rate. The conversion rates involved is the difference between successful affiliate campaigns and those that fail. If you receive 100 clicks on your affiliate campaign, for example, and you have a low conversion rate, you need to rethink your strategy.

Be sure to test a product before recommending it to your readers! Failure to do so is one of the most common mistakes made by bloggers. I’ve seen bloggers who recommend sophisticated products which they have not used themselves. Personally, I highly recommend that you don’t do this. Your credibility as a reviewer will be negatively affected by this practice. Providing an honest review about a product you have actually tried and used will increase your reliability and credibility. You can sign up for a free trial version of the product, if it is available, or ask the product owner for a review article. You could also buy and use the product so you can give an excellent rating, for or against it.

More than half of my affiliate sales come from tutorials and reviews about the products I have tested.

When you register up for any affiliate program, here are some things you should look out for:

  • Affiliate Control Panel
  • Available Banners
  • Promotional Issues
  • Payment method
  • Minimum payment
  • Mandatory or non-mandatory tax form

These factors will help you decide if you need to promote that product or not. Assuming, for instance, that you choose a seasonal product and the minimum payment is $1,000, how sure are you that you can achieve enough conversions this particular season to earn that amount?

Additional Tip: Partnering with famous brands will be an added bonus to your affiliate marketing campaign.
